SURF RANCH · SAN JUAN DEL SUR

Granada to San Juan del Sur

After a morning in Granada, the Pacific coast is a practical next stop. Take a local bus to Rivas and change for San Juan del Sur, or reserve a ride directly from your Granada address.

01 · LEAVING GRANADA

Choose the kind of arrival you want

A traveler with one backpack can change buses in Rivas and continue when the next bus leaves. A family with bags, or a group carrying boards, may prefer a reserved vehicle with a named drop-off. Ask for total price and luggage terms for the particular date.

Local bus

Two buses via Rivas

Ask at the Granada market area for the departure to Rivas. Confirm the exact boarding corner before carrying bags over. Leave time to find the onward vehicle at the Rivas terminal and to get from the San Juan del Sur stop to your hotel.

Shared shuttle

Ask where the shuttle finishes

Get the Granada meeting point, luggage limits and arrival address in writing. A drop in central San Juan del Sur works well for a waterfront lunch. If you are heading straight to Surf Ranch, find out whether your quote goes all the way to the resort.

Private vehicle

Arrange one pickup for everyone

Send your exact hotel and rooming group size. Request a full-vehicle quote, confirm space for passengers and equipment, and ask if additional stops change the price. A map gives a driving estimate from your particular address.

02 · THE CHANGE

What to do in Rivas

Granada → Rivas → San Juan del Sur is the local bus route. You can travel south from Granada without returning to Managua. A traveler-reported estimate for the first bus leg is about two hours. The connection, second bus and last ride to your hotel add time.

At the Granada stop

Show the conductor “Rivas” and confirm where the bus ends. If offered a connection in Nandaime, clarify both the transfer point and the next bus before boarding with large bags.

At the Rivas terminal

Ask for the bus to San Juan del Sur. San Jorge is the port for Ometepe and a different onward journey. Check the departure and fare directly with the crew.

At the town stop

Choose your destination before accepting a taxi: malecón for a meal, a town hotel, or Surf Ranch near Las Delicias. Agree on the whole-group price and the drop-off.

03 · YOUR FIRST AFTERNOON

Choose town first or check in first

With bags, going straight to Surf Ranch usually makes the afternoon easier. Check-in begins at 2 pm. After settling in, choose a pool afternoon or arrange a return ride to the bay for sunset. If you have time in town before check-in, keep the pickup point and bags with your group.

04 · TRIP QUESTIONS

Before you leave Granada

Check directly with your driver or at the departure point on the day, especially if traveling late or continuing by public transport.

What if my group reaches Rivas late?

Ask immediately whether an onward bus is still operating. If it is not, request a taxi quote to your final address and share the updated arrival time with your hotel.

Should I reserve a surf lesson for arrival day?

Keep the lesson flexible if traveling by local bus. Confirm your arrival first, then ask reception for the next suitable lesson time and beach.
