Surfing off the coast

SURF RANCH · RETREAT LEADERS

Planning a surf retreat in Nicaragua

The first number to give reception is how many people will sleep at the resort. The second is how many of them will actually surf. These two lists answer different questions about rooms, lessons and rides.

BEFORE YOU ANNOUNCE DATES

Count hosts, beds and surfers separately

Suppose two leaders are bringing ten guests. Twelve people need somewhere to sleep. If one leader stays on shore and two guests skip lessons, ask about nine places in the water. Give reception the split between first-timers and returning surfers as well as the total.

Ask before assigning beds

Three condos sleep twelve if everyone is comfortable pairing up on queen beds. If the two leaders need their own rooms, ask for those separately and recalculate the remaining ten places. A double bed and a private bedroom solve different needs.

Name the teaching roles

Tell the resort who leads your land sessions and which participants need resort surf instruction. If you want a workshop space for a movement class, request the time, surface and equipment you need. Confirm those details before publishing your program.

Group the arrivals

List each airport, flight, local arrival time, passenger count and board bags. If two groups land hours apart, request two pickup quotes. A ride for a booked beach lesson covers a different journey from an airport pickup.

A THREE-NIGHT EXAMPLE

Leave room for the ocean in the schedule

The three-night public surf package starts with two 90-minute lessons per person at Playa Remanso, surfboards during lessons and return transport. Use it to compare options with a custom proposal. Reception sets the sessions around ocean conditions. Block extra time for the ride in both directions.

Arrival afternoon

Check-in starts at 2 pm. Choose one meeting point for late arrivals, introduce the leaders and confirm the following day’s surf pickup with reception. Keep the first group dinner easy to join for guests on a later flight.

First full day

Send the surf group to the confirmed pickup. Give the people staying behind a meeting time and place for lunch. Plan the afternoon discussion around a question from the lesson, such as which movement each participant wants to repeat.

Second full day and departure

Use the next available lesson window for session two. Ask what time the group will return before scheduling the closing meal. Put any airport pickup and the noon checkout on the departure plan so guests can work backward from their flights.

THE HOST’S PROPOSAL

Ask for a price you can explain per guest

Give the planner your preferred dates and one alternative, the room mix, meals, dietary needs, lesson counts and total budget per participant for the whole stay. Ask for transport, paid activities, equipment and any private-use request as separate items. This lets you compare a guest who surfs twice with one who stays at the resort.

Send the inquiry before collecting guest payments or promising exclusive access. The team replies with availability and next steps. The form takes no payment and holds no dates. If you only need rooms, compare dated room totals in the direct booking calendar.
